The Acceleration of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) activity improves water security in the Middle East through the application and dissemination of new methods for mapping and identifying high potential ASR sites using remote sensing, geospatial data, and hydrologic analysis.
The activity will not construct new ASR infrastructure, but rather will apply new site selection methods over wide areas to substantially reduce the cost of identifying and characterizing sites.
This will benefit both host government and development partner agencies to support cost-effective solutions to capture large amounts of water that would otherwise be lost through runoff for both drinking water and other economic (industrial and agricultural) activities. The target study area will include watershed regions across Jordan, Lebanon, and the West Bank.
