Grant Description

Through the new Moving India toward.Sanitation for All (MISAAL) activity, the Urban Management Centre (UMC) will build on its previous Ahmedabad Sanitation Action Lab (ASAL) activity, which USAID supported from October 2014 to September 2017.

Based on the lessons learned from ASAL, UMC identified the need for municipal official capacity.building support and financial reforms to ensure improved access to WASH infrastructure development and the adoption of appropriate WASH related behaviors.

Specifically, the MISAAL activity will provide technical assistance to the local governments of the cities of Ahmedabad, Navsari, Udaipur and Mysore to achieve and sustain sanitation improvements; improve the management of liquid waste and achieve a convergence of the various schemes of the national, state and local governments to move toward safely managed sanitation.

MISAAL will also engage with the USAID-funded national Project Management Unit housed in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to disseminate learnings from pilots and tools developed by UMC under the previous ASAL activity including a knowledge management database, GIS tools and effective community engagement approaches.
