Grant Description

USDA-ARS scientists at El Reno, Oklahoma, and Temple, and Texas, Baylor University are developing methods for rapid assessment of long-term annual average sedimentation rates in reservoirs to provide data to calibrate the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrologic model.

Such calibrated models can improve the utility for assessing management and policy alternatives for national ministries, municipalities, and NGOs.

This work is being done in cooperation with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agricultural and Technology (JKUAT), ICRAF, and the Kenyan Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
