APHIS contributed funds to offset costs for the 2011 Congreso Sociedad Iberoamericana de Epidemiologa Veterinaria y Medicina Preventiva (SIEVMP), Avian Health session.
The conference was an opportunity for SIEVMP attendees to share experiences on animal disease epidemiology, including sanitary status, prevention, control, and eradication techniques, and diagnostic tests.
The conference was an opportunity to build capacity in the region, through training courses on state-of-the-art epidemiological techniques in spatial analysis, risk analysis, and data collection and analysis. The SIEVMP included an avian health session focusing on HPAI and the control and prevention of avian diseases.
Participants were able to build ties and coordinate actions between researchers and decision makers from across the region.
The objective of the SIEVMP is to provide a platform in Latin America to share animal health information in Spanish and Portuguese. This is the only professional society of its kind in the Americas.
