Activity 1: CVB, Director of Policy, Evaluation and Licensing, attended the 26th VICH Steering Committee meeting held in Tokyo, Japan. VICH is an international harmonization effort principally between the United States, Japan, and the European Union.
Other countries, such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are official observers and adopt VICH guidelines that serve as standardized methods across regions.
The CVB is part of the U.S. delegation representing the USDA on the VICH Steering Committee on issues related to veterinary biologics; Activity 2: APHIS and ARS each sent one technical expert to the International Symposium on Control of Transboundary Animal Infectious Diseases in Sapporo, Japan on February 3 and 4, 2012.
The APHIS Assistant Director, APHIS-VS, National Animal Health Policy Program, Ruminant Health Program and ARS Microbiologist, National Animal Disease Center were among the international chairs for the symposium.
