Activity 1: NVSL hosted four veterinarians from the Secretaria de Agricultura, Ganaderia, Dessarrollo y Rural. Pesca y Alimentacion (SAGARPA) in Mexico City, Mexico.
The purpose of this visit was to receive PCR proficiency training on rRT-PCR for Newcastle Disease (ND) as part of SAGARPAs application to the Office of International Epizootics (OIE) for recognition of Mexicos freedom of ND. Trip covered by APHIS/IS, salary coved by NVSL.
Activity 2: From January 16-20, 2012, NVSL in coordination with the FAS Cochran Fellowship Program provided training in Exotic Newcastle Disease (END) for three technical experts from Mexico in Ames, Iowa. The course focused on developing END proficiency panels to certify END diagnostic laboratories in Mexico.
The goal of this course is to increase Mexicos ability to detect and eradicate poultry diseases, benefiting U.S. poultry producers and potentially lowering the risk of introducing the disease into the U.S; Activity 3: The National Veterinary Services Laboratories, Diagnostic Bacteriology Laboratory, hosted five laboratory personnel f
