Grant Description

CSF control and eradication programs in Haiti and DR, has been in place since 2003 with the technical and financial support of USDA-APHIS. The DR and Haiti CSF programs rely on the technical advice from USDA-APHIS-VS experts.

Specific recommendations to improve CSF programs field operations in Haiti and DR, are provided by APHIS experts in the areas of vaccination (quality and quantity), CSF epidemiological surveillance, sample collection procedures and biosecurity .

Given the level of underfunding of the CSF program in Haiti and the termination of APHIS funding for the DR program, the recommendations provided by APHIS-VS experts are important to identify priority actions and realistic goals for the program in the future.

FAS food for progress funds will be available shortly to continue the support to the DR CSF eradication program beyond 2012.

At this critical moment, the DR CVO and the Veterinary Services are designing a 2-year plan to complete CSF eradication in the DR.
