Grant Description

The Emergency Poultry Disease Response and Policy (EPDRP) International Symposium will train participants from a variety of countries in the principle steps in responding to an emergency poultry disease outbreak, including biosecurity, surveillance, quarantine, depopulation, disposal, and cleaning and disinfection.

This intensive eight (8) day program, will be held at the University of Delaware's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Newark, Delaware.

The symposium will cover: OIE reportable poultry diseases including avian influenza virus, surveillance, biosecurity, outbreak response and control, incident command structures, protecting the responder, depopulation, disposal, composting, and decontamination.

The symposium presents and utilizes the Delaware model, which emphasizes close cooperation between government, industry and educational institutions to manage disease outbreaks utilizing best management practices and technologies related to controlling avian influenza and other catastrophic disease outbreaks.
