The Regional Training Course (RTC) imparted basic skills and competencies on pest risk analysis and management for economic impact assessment, as well as at facilitating networking and knowledge sharing on fruit fly quarantine and exotic invasions among participating Member States.
The expected outputs of the training course were to: Increase knowledge about role of quarantine for fruit flies; Increase knowledge about role of and rationale for conducting pest risk analysis; Increase knowledge about the legal and regulatory frameworks that support and guide the application of pest risk analysis for fruit flies, both at the national and international levels; Improve capacity of participants to cooperate towards enhanced national and regional surveillance programmes for Mediterranean fruit fly.
The training course included both theoretical lectures; practical sessions and exercises on different aspects of quarantine and pest risk analysis, with emphasis on Mediterranean fruit fly. 20 participants from the Balkan countries participated. FAO/IAEA funded this project..
