APHIS participated in a clinical presentation on African Swine Fever (ASF) and appropriate methods for conducting a premises investigation.
This presentation included guidelines for personal protective equipment and application of quantitative epidemiologic principles to conduct an outbreak investigation.
Additionally, the presentation will demonstrate proper animal restraint and euthanasia techniques; necropsy techniques for swine with an emphasis on sample collection and submission procedures; appropriate methods of animal disposal; and premises cleaning/disinfection and restocking methods.
The classroom presentation is followed by field evaluations by the experts on Vietnams ASF response efforts, swine farm operations, and laboratory capacities.
The course concluded with the experts sharing its assessment with the Vietnamese authorities to recommend ASF follow-up actions to address Vietnams needs.
