The Fruit Fly Identification Workshop (without an existing fruit fly trapping program) was held at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, Paraquita Bay, British Virgin Island.
This workshop was a collaborative effort between The United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services- International Services (USDA-APHIS IS), the Greater Caribbean Safeguarding Initiative (GCSI), and the Department of Agriculture of the British Virgin Island.
Over sixteen (16) participants attended the workshop from six (6) countries in the Caribbean. (The Countries Trained included Anguilla, BVI, Nevis, St Kitts, St Maarten, and Turks and Caicos). The objectives of the Fruit Fly Identification Workshop were to: 1. Familiarize participants with characters of the major tephritid genera (and species) present in the neotropics. 2.
To enable participants to survey, collect, preserve and conduct preliminary identification if a species of economic importance is trapped . (without an existing fruit fly trapping program). 3. To convey to participants current survey protocol
