Under the Greater Caribbean Safeguarding Initiative an effort to harmonize Fruit fly trapping and record keeping among countries in the Caribbean basin including Haiti is one the on-going projects.
This effort in Haiti will also involve the APHIS preclearance staff who will work in conjunction with Ministry counterparts under the Mango program preclearance workplan to ensure that trapping and subsequent record keeping work is being conducted in the prescribed manner and on and on-going basis.
Marco Gonzalez of APHIS Costa Rica, has conducted this work in other GCSI countries and with the concurrence of John Shaw, has agreed to travel to Haiti the week of September 10th to begin working with the Ministry and to include Haiti in his initiative to harmonize regional fruit fly data
