Citrus greening or Huanglongbing (HLB) is considered one of the most destructive citrus diseases globally and has accounted for substantial economic losses in Asia and the Americas. The project supported a technical visit to South Africa and Swaziland by an APHIS HLB subject matter expert (SME) in order to raise awareness levels and mobilize support for phytosanitary mitigations to address the imminent threat of HLB.
Engagements between the HLB SME, NPPO officials and related stakeholders facilitated an exchange of information on perspectives and experiences with the management of HLB in the United States, so that officials are better equipped in terms of their emergency response and Phytosanitary control measures in addressing the threat of HLB.
