The IAEA approached the Screwworm Program in Panama for support with conducting the IAEA Technical Cooperation Project # RAS/5/054 "Contributing to the Assessment of the Feasibility of SIT Based Area-wide Integrated Management of Old World Screwworm (OWS) Flies in the Middle East." The objective of the Workshop was to exchange information on the current status of OWS fly infestation and measures taken to control OWS in infested Member States, and measures to prevent OWS introduction endangered Member States.
Participants also learn the principals of planning, managing and implementing a large area-wide New World Screwworm (NWS) fly eradication and prevention program in order to discuss how the principals and technology employed by the NWS program may be applicable in the Middle East region.
