Under an agreement with the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), APHIS/PPQ - CPHST is providing training in Pest Risk Analysis to 33 risk analysts and other plant health officials from Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize and the Dominican Republic at the IICA headquarters in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The first group of trainees from these countries were trained, January 23 - 27, 2012.
This Spanish language course is part of a larger initiative which will also include similar on-site training in late May, 2012 for countries from the Andean region.
The training package also involves development of on-line training modules by CPHST and will include mentorships for Risk Analysts from the region in Raleigh, NC at the CPHST offices. The IDB is funding the travel and per diem of 3 APHIS Risk Analysts to conduct this training.
The program supports US Government and APHIS commitments to provide technical assistance to developing countries in SPS. CPHST as the leading Plant Risk Analysis unit agreed to provide this training in 2012.
