APHIS participated in a presentation on biocontrol and integrated pest management (IPM) for plant pest and disease control.
Biocontrol and IPM are recognized worldwide as effective tools to manage plant pest and disease populations, reduce chemical pesticide usage and provide required safeguards to facilitate trade through the development of systems approach trade strategies.
Systems approaches are a defined series of overlapping pest and disease safeguards that enable exporting countries to provide importing countries with the necessary assurances that exported fruits and vegetables are free of plant pests and disease and are safe to trade.
