Grant Description

APHIS delivered a training workshop on the Irradiation Preclearance Program in Vietnam.

During the week of November 27, APHIS Preclearance and Offshore Programs conducted a training workshop in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on the preclearance program and offshore irradiation treatment for plant products imported into the United States from Vietnam.

A total of 30 participants attended and included candidates selected by the Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture to represent Vietnams Plant Protection Department).

This intensive, four-day course emphasized topics in fundamentals of irradiation, guidelines and regulations pertaining to irradiation phytosanitary treatment, roles and responsibilities as per the operational work plan, and use of the Irradiation Reporting and Accountability Database (IRADS).

It also included hands-on technical training with on-site visits regarding monitoring responsibilities at irradiation facilities, production sites and packinghouses.
