The Phytosanitary Irradiation Forum was organized by Chapman University (California) and the International Irradiation Association, in cooperation with the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) and the Joint FAO-IAEA Program of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The objective of this forum was to increase the understanding of irradiation as a phytosanitary treatment to enhance global trade and prevent invasive pests, as well as to enhance communication and collaboration.
Hosted by Chapman University, California, for the last seven years, the annual Phytosanitary Irradiation Forum has fostered the rapid global growth of this application.
APHIS funded participants from the following countries (one each): Morocco-Office National de Scurit Sanitaire des Produits Alimentaires (ONSSA), Egypt-Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ), Jordan-Plant Protection and Phytosanitary Directorate (PPPD), Saudi Arabia- General Directorate for Plant Quarantine, and UAE-Agricultural Development Department (ADP) as well as one APHIS Agricultural Specialist.
