APHIS/New Delhi participated in a multi-agency SPS Assessment of Bangladesh. This week long event was a critical component of the Presidents Feed the Future Initiative.
The recent establishment of reform initiatives in the Bangladesh Ministry of Agriculture offers a unique opportunity for cooperation between APHIS and key Departments with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) responsibilities and international obligations.
Government of Bangladesh (GoB) officials have stated their interest in developing a cooperative program with APHIS for the express purpose of sharing knowledge, developing the capacity of technical professionals to perform SPS related activities, as well as gaining a full understanding of what is necessary to update Bangladeshs surveillance/monitoring, laboratory and testing infrastructure.
Feed the Future is a unique opportunity to capitalize on the established relationship between APHIS and offices in the Department of Agriculture responsible for SPS enforcement and applications. Therefore, the initial objective was to strengthen this relationship by working
