Grant Description

APHIS has supported efforts in South American countries to strengthen biosecurity at livebird markets and to improve surveillance and emergency preparedness for avian influenza, starting with projects conducted in 2014.

This Regional Workshop on Logistical Responses to Avian Health Emergencies for South American Countries occured from August 14-16 in Guayaquil, Ecuador with participants from 11 countries, leveraging previous efforts by strengthening the field surveillance to ensure the timely investigation of suspicious cases and the collection of samples for diagnosis.

APHIS subject matter experts attended the training focused on sharing and harmonizing surveillance approaches for Highly Pathanogenic Avian Influenza to ensure the appropriate collection of samples and early detection of HPAI outbreaks.
