From March 12-19, 2016, the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), International Technical and Regulatory Capacity Building (ITRCB) Center conducted a workshop that was structured after similar US-based training with classroom and laboratory exercises which provide participants with a solid understanding of economically important diseases of animals and how to intervene in their control.
The components of the TAD Workshop included: 1) introduction of participants to the major emerging and transboundary animal diseases that affect global trade in animals and animal products and thus impact food security; 2) review of international organizations and standards which regulate animal agriculture trade; and 3) practical hands-on field experience in necropsy techniques, sample collection, on-farm cleaning/disposal and general biosecurity for a variety of species.
