An estimated 1.5 million people die prematurely each year from breathing dangerous levels of indoor smoke from cooking with solid fuels in open fires and unvented stoves.
The Partnership for Clean Indoor Air is improving health, livelihood and quality of life by increasing the use of clean, efficient, affordable, reliable and safe home cooking/heating technologies and fuels in developing countries.
Activities include: building the capacity of the 230 public and private partner organizations to meet community needs; develop local markets; improve technology performance; and monitor the health, social, economic, and environmental impacts of their interventions.
This is accomplished through regional workshops, international forums, technical assistance, and information exchange via publications and the Web site.
