Grant Description

This program will be a continuation of a previous IPEC project to prevent and progressively eliminate exploitative child labor in small-scale traditional gold mining in South America.

The program will involve awareness raising campaigns; the building of alliances among government institutions, NGOs, workers and employers organizations, and parents of working children to combat expoitative child labor; the promotion of national policies to address the problem of child labor; and the enhancement of institutional capacity for direct intervention to combat child labor.

The program will focus on direct interventions in mining communities to systematically remove children from working in dangerous and exploitative conditions in the mines and prevent other children from entering such work in the first place. - Through International Labour Organisation.
