As the general public takes growing ownership of their individual impact on society and the environment, there is a growing desire for means of responsible consumption. Likewise, as businesses respond to this growing demand for sustainable products, innovators and product developers require tools to enable sustainability by design.
A growing landscape of methodologies, black-box certifications and consumer "apps" results in a fractured and confusing experience for both parties, and potential missed opportunities, especially in leveraging the vast quantities of data generated as businesses throughout the value chain embed digital tools into their processes.
This work therefore aims to explore how flexible transparent methodologies and data sharing can facilitate sustainability by design, and act as an enabler for sustainable production and consumption through clear communication of sustainability information.
