This project focuses on the decipherment, translation and commentary of a group of hitherto unpublished Greek texts written on papyrus from Egypt, housed at the Austrian National Library.
Dated to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods (III BC-AD IV), the texts concern the socio-economic life of a number of Egyptian communities.
The aim of this project is twofold: first, to make accessible to scholars, for the first time, new documents, which can be used for further study; second, to get an insight into the lives of the lower strata of society for Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt, and for antiquity more broadly.
