The aim of this PhD project is to understand how the human brain forms beliefs about its own abilities - especially when our performance seems to change. We will use a combination of behavioural experiments and neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, EEG) to understand these 'self-modelling' processes in adults and in children, and will use
fundamental mechanistic knowledge to explain how self-beliefs go wrong in psychiatric illnesses - like depression and anxiety.
