Grant Description

Heritage conservation centres on the need for people to care for their material past and transmit it to future generations. Inevitably, this has meant acknowledging conservation as management rather than prevention of change.

This project will focus on the impact of changing materials, aesthetics, and technologies introduced through conservation of built heritage, positioning it as a set of negotiated relationships between practices, materialities, and communities.

Working with the Trust, using a mixed methods approach, it will explore diverse sites and approaches, comparing scales, typologies, and contexts. It will offer practical tools for decision-making and collaboration for built heritage across Scotland.
