Students are given the opportunity to put their burgeoning knowledge of science and engineering into practice from the outset.
The aim of the first year training programme is to furnish all students with expertise in the underpinning theory and engineering approaches needed in their research.
With access to state-of-the-art laboratories and a unique cohort-style approach to learning, students will be immersed in an environment which supports a research focus from the very beginning.
During the first year of training, students complete a number of lecture courses, transferable skills training, technical training assignments and short research projects, before continuing with a 3-year research project.
Students choose their PhD project towards the end of the first year from a range of projects put forward by academics connected to the CDT.
