Aim one: investigate how alumni givers and development professionals understand the role and impact of their philanthropic contributions to HE and its role in enabling social justice. Aim two: explore how alumni donors perceive their role in enabling social mobility and how this shapes their bequest approach and decision.
Research questions: - Do alumni givers consider the role and impact of their gifts in relation to notions of social justice? If so, how do they perceive these issues? - What importance, if any, do alumni givers place on social justice relative to other factors when deciding to leave a legacy to a HEI?
- What determines the approach and decision to leave a legacy to the institution they attended? Does an interest in social mobility influence this? - Can a better understanding of donors' approach to social justice better inform the process of soliciting and stewarding gifts? And can this better understanding help philanthropy play a more equitable role
in higher education?
