The project will combine systems metabolic engineering strategies (systems and synthetic biology) and fermentation process in screening and characterising different enzymes suitable for the proposed pathways, draw insights into the metabolism and propose optimised processes for stable and continuous citric acid production from CO2 in gram scale.
Student will be trained in metabolic pathway analysis (autotrophic, heterotrophic pathways), bioinformatics, to identify optimal metabolic routes, determining pathways or genes to be attenuated or overexpressed aiding the product formation.
Student will engage in workshops, national and international conferences highlighting the results, interacting with wider scientific community and will work with multidisciplinary team of researchers at Northumbria University and P&G.
