Grant Description

This project will draw on the initial partners from the pilot phase of JUMP and seek to engage broader city-wide partners as JUMP progresses to a city-wide offer. The PhD encompasses three studies that will contribute to advancing the understanding of principles that can be applied to whole systems approach for multi-ethnic teenage girls aged 11-16-years. The PhD will apply the Theoretical Domains Framework (Michie et al., 2005) to answer the following research questions:

1. What are the existing social, psychological, and physical barriers and facilitators of physical activity that underpin the priorities of teenage girls?

2. What are stakeholders' perspectives of the JUMP project on the low rates of physical activity participation in teenage girls?

3. How can the findings from study 1 and study 2 be applied as guiding principles to a physical activity whole systems approach intervention for teenage girls?
