Recipient Organization University of Bristol
Country United Kingdom
Start Date Sep 30, 2024
End Date Sep 29, 2028
Duration 1,460 days
Number of Grantees 2
Roles Student; Supervisor
Data Source UKRI Gateway to Research
Grant ID 2928775
Grant Description

Channel Understanding and Modeling: -Comprehensive measurements will be obtained to gain insights into the channel characteristics in the mid-bands covered by ITU 6G allocations. -Sophisticated models will be developed to account for the challenges posed by higher frequencies, including increased attenuation losses and rapid channel variations.MIMO Scheme Investigation: -An exploration and evaluation of appropriate Massive Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) schemes suitable for the upper-mid bands will be achieved targeting the realisation of 6G objectives and applications. -An analysis of the potential of Extreme Massive MIMO with up to 1024 elements at base stations and larger antenna arrays at terminals will be conducted.

Feasibility and effectiveness in this frequency band will be considered. The trade-offs of energy consumption and performance will be evaluated.

Energy-Efficient Network Design: -The imperative of energy efficiency in 6G networks to align with climate change goals will be addressed. -A wireless communication network and air interface design, with a primary focus on minimising energy consumption while ensuring seamless performance, will be devised and optimised.
