Grant Description

The proposed research engages with the reproduction of racial capitalism in Germany. It does so by focusing on the city of Berlin as a method and object of study that makes traceable the variety of dynamics and forms of power at play. Special attention is attributed to the recent developments in the course of Israel's atrocities in Gaza.

Observing once again a heavy crack-down on Palestinian solidarity, this research suggests that the reproduction of racial capitalism through different forms of power cannot be grasped without understanding how Germany is dealing with its past in the present. Building on Marxist state theory and theory of economic power, as well as critical

approaches to urban studies, this project endeavours to shed new light on the specific form in which racial capitalism unfolds in the German context. It does so by conducting a mixed ethnographic study, mainly comprised of interviews, informal conversations, and participatory observations to understand the situation on the ground in

Berlin and to contribute to a general understanding of racial capitalism.
