Grant Description

Confession - a mode of self-examination spanning history and media - is ubiquitous in the digital age, enabling unprecedented self-expression by women. Comparing confessional methods in young women's social media content and women's midcentury writing, this project generates crucial new insights into the significance of

confessional and digital expression for women. It constitutes the first sustained feminist analysis of young women's confessional expression on social media. Deploying literary critical methods and digital ethnography, I offer a timely feminist intervention in the fields of auto/biography and social media studies.
