Grant Description

As rightfully highlighted in the advertisement for this studentship, the cultural complexity of landscapes is often overlooked in contemporary climate debate. The disregard for cultural characteristics and practices leads to socially unsustainable proposals for environmentally beneficial action. Such proposals fail to take into account how people actually engage with landscape,

particularly in terms of landscape appreciation. This is why I want to consider the question of how cultural dimensions of landscape appreciation should inform perceptions of landscape change.
