The proposed research project is aimed at the predictive modelling of caprock integrity of depleted gas fields and aquifers during compressed air storage cycles.
The project will model porous media in a fully coupled poro-thermo-elastic manner, considering the potential nucleation and growth of fractures as well as the permeability changes of existing and incipient fractures at the reservoir caprock interface.
The study will take into account caprock property variations, examining their behaviour systematically within the parametric space.
