Grant Description
Nitrification is the microbial oxidation of ammonia to nitrite (ammonia oxidation) and then nitrate (nitrite oxidation).
It is carried out by ammonia oxidising bacteria/archaea (AOA/AOB), nitrite oxidising bacteria (NOB) and comammox bacteria.
