What is missing from these representations? How does the 'official' record of the 1940s compare with the material generated by Indian photojournalists and filmmakers? How might this visual record bring new meanings making for families and communities today?

Archives to be consulted include, in addition to the IWM, the National Army Museum, The National Archives, and the British

Library's India Office Records. The student will also need to visit India to undertake archival research and access the Alkazi Foundation in New Delhi and the National Archives of India
