IA2030 SP7 Scoping project for Vaccine and Immunization Implementation Research Strategy and Prioritization

This proposal responds to the recognized need for a more responsive implementation research ecosystem for immunization programme decision-makers, in keeping with the objectives of the Immunization Agenda 2030 Strategic Priority (SP) 7 on Innovation and Research.

The scope includes a series of workstreams that constitute the initial phase of a potential multi-year pilot reflecting a three-level partnership (global/regional/country).

The aim of this initial scoping exercise is to examine and characterize the current immunization research ecosystem, with a particular emphasis on implementation research, utilizing a test case of a purposely selected, programmatically relevant innovation.

We intend to elucidate existing processes to i) identify research and evidence needs, ii) understand the pathways through which these needs are communicated by the relevant stakeholders in the immunization system, and iii) to assess how evidence is and could be used in vaccine prioritization, introduction, and implementation decision-making.

The outputs of this opening phase are expected to inform future objectives and shape of subsequent pilot phases, and to serve as a baseline against which to reference any process improvements, while also enabling the achievement of agreed SP7 objectives.
