Enhancing convergence in negotiation positions related to climate and health in the context of the Global Goal on Adaptation in the lead-up to COP29

The proposal will engage with key agenda items and workstreams on climate change and health for 2024-2025, include the UAE-Belém work programme, the role of means of implementation for adaptation (building on GGA indicators), and interlinkages with other relevant areas of focus and agenda items such as the NCQG.

Adaptation indicator development for the GGA health target will take place through a submission process, indicator mapping, technical experts, a workshop in September 2024, and two more workshops in 2025 up to COP30.

While the final outcomes of this work will be adopted at COP30, the work in the lead-up to COP29 will play a key role in shaping this process, which includes the importance of reaching convergence as well as engaging with experts to develop and adopt evidence- and science-based indicators.

This proposal focuses on amplifying the engagement of negotiators for enhanced and informed involvement and contribution to adaptation-related work, building on the work related to GGA health indicators and position-building through heightened engagement of G77 and China negotiators and sub-groups, cross-engagement with developed country partners where relevant, possible, and applicable, and other relevant actors contributing to a better understanding of the need for developing common positions ahead of COP29.
