On August 23, 2001, the Chinese government gave 20 computers to the Foreign Affairs Department as a gesture of goodwill and friendship toward the PNG government.
The vice-minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation of the People's Republic of China, Sun Zhenyu, during a visit to PNG in March promised to donate the computers to the government.
Chinese Ambassador Zhao Zhenyu handed over the computers to Foreign Affairs Secretary Leonard Louma, who thanked the Chinese government for the computers, adding they were vital furniture in an office
China donates 20 computers to Papua New Guinea in goodwill gesture Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
