Sector: Waste Management .Beneficiaries: YAL Youth 1,012 of which 506 are women...The grant will be used to provide alternative approach to solid waste management among 500 households in Mukono.
Through targeted sensitization of households in proper handling and management of solid waste with emphasis on sorting of waste at home.
In addition, they will also be trained in kitchen/home garden establishment and management as an additional incentive which will enable them improve their nutrition and also utilize the composted manure from the biodegraded wastes.
After the period of 7 to 14 days, used garbage collection bags will be collected by the project team to the collection center.
While at the collection center, garbage will farther be sorted, and decomposing substances processed into organic manure, light plastics and polythene heated and mixed with sand to make high quality pavers, while others with the recommended gauges sold out to the recycling plants.
The other materials will be processed into charcoal briquettes. ..The grant funds will be used to: (a) increase infrastructure to increase sales; (b) trash pick-up vehicles; (c) briquette and paver machine to convert waste; (d) trainings on sensitization; and (e) technical assistance. .
