Grant Description

Vecinos Honduras (VH), will help coffee farmers from seven communities in the Azabache zone of the municipality of Danl, department of El Paraso, reduce their dependency on a single crop by introducing fruit and vegetable production.

Farmers will receive training in agroecological practices that protect their soil and water supply and learn how to manage their producer associations more effectively.

In the municipality of Concepcin de Mara, Choluteca, VH will carry out a pilot program to produce masica ("maya nut"), and include it in local school lunch programs.

In conjunction with five other IAF grantees, VH will develop strategies and implement practices aimed at farmers coping with drought, resulting in increased food security, healthier families and decreased migration. Project activities will benefit an additional 210 beneficiaries directly.
