Grant Description

Junta Administradora de Agua y Saneamiento de las Aldeas de Guayabito, Cofrada, Destino, Naranjal y Jicaro Gordo (GUAYABITO) The IAF will continue to support GUAYABITO, which is working to protect local water supplies against environmental challenges, like cattle ranching, logging and mineral extraction.

GUAYABITO will accomplish this by organizing community leaders to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the local watersheds and repair and install local water and sanitation infrastructure in five communities. GUAYABITO will establish a local tree nursery and reforest the local watersheds.

GUAYABITO will train water boards, local leaders and water system users in water and sanitation practices, organization, leadership, and gender equity, among others, as well as train trainers to work in two new communities.

The work will benefit 1,500 individuals directly and another 7,500 indirectly via cleaner sourcing of water for public and private consumption.
