China Eximbank provides $80.75 million seller's credit to CWE for Kehaila East Agriculture Scheme In 2003, China Eximbank issued a $110,662,159.90 loan to the Government of Sudan for the Kehaila East Agriculture Scheme and El Makabra (المكابراب) Agriculture Scheme (Merowe Resettlement) Project.
China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) reported that China Eximbank provided a seller's credit that covered 85% of the $95 million contract for the Kehaila East Agriculture Scheme.
The construction of the China Eximbank-financed 1250 MW Merowe Hydroelectric Power Plant (captured via Record ID#178) caused the displacement of several groups of people living in the surrounding areas, one of which was the Manaseer (Manasir) people.
The purpose of the project was to provide reliable water access for the Manaseer (Manasir) in Merowe Dam resettlement areas. It involved the construction of irrigation canals, pumping stations, and power stations.
On April 19, 2006, China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) signed a million USD commercial contract for the Kehaila East Agriculture Scheme. It was officially completed and handed over to the authorities on July 10, 2008. The El Makabra Agriculture Scheme was also successfully completed, but its precise completion date is unknown.
