Grant Description

This project will restore 1,698 acres of mangroves that were degraded after the construction of a road that changed the hydrology of this coastal system.

The restoration area is located in one of the most critical points for migratory birds that cross the Gulf of Mexico during migration, and is part of a recently declared State protected area along the northern coast of Yucatan.

This area does not have a management plan and experiencing great pressure from poorly planned infrastructure ....Waterfowl and other wetland-dependent species that will benefit from the project include: American wigeon, redhead, black skimmer, black?crowned night?heron, gull?billed tern, lesser scaup, limpkin, mangrove cuckoo, red knot, reddish egret, roseate spoonbill, sandwich tern, snowy plover and Wilson's plover...
