This project will be conducted at the Baha Santa Brbara / Baha Yavaros-Moroncarit lagoon complex, located on the southern coast of Sonora in Northwest Mexico.
On an international level, this area hosts a high concentration of continental priority species of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan.
The area is a wintering site of historical importance for many migratory waterfowl species, including Ringed-necked Duck, American Wigeon, Pacific Black Brant, Ruddy Duck, and Crested Merganser.
However, the Pacific coast wetlands are being threatened by the shrimp industry, road infrastructure and agricultural activities which have caused a reduction in available habitat for migratory waterfowl.
