Rhino & Tiger Conservation Fund

The purpose of this proposal is to strengthen anti-poaching efforts in a corridor, North Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary, used by tigers and other large mammals to flee flooding in Kaziranga National Park.

This will be done by (1) developing needed infrastructure and improving mobility and surveillance capabilities including constructing a new forest office and camp, providing a vehicle for patrolling, constructing a deep well bore for drinking water, and providing solar power lights and equipment for charging batteries; (2) equipping 25 front line forest staff with basic field materials needed to enhance their anti-poaching/anti-smuggling patrols and reporting activities including field uniforms, torches, shoes, leech guards, rain gear, batteries, GPS units, digital cameras, laptop and search lights; (3) forming one mobile patrolling party; (4) introducing MIST based SMART patrol techniques on a pilot basis to the front line forest staff by providing 15-20 forest staff with a 7 day intensive training program; and (5) initiating a community outreach program by presenting 10 school level awareness camps and 5 community level outreach programs.
