Grant Description

THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO SUPPORT A CONSERVATION EFFORT IN THE GREATER SERENGETI ECOSYSTEM AND MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK, NORTHERN TANZANIA BY PROVIDING TECHNICAL AND MATERIAL SUPPORT FOR MONITORING AND PROTECTION IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE LONG-TERM SURVIVAL OF IMPORTANT BLACK RHINOCEROS POPULATIONS.

THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO CONSERVE THE EASTERN BLACK RHINOCEROS AND THEIR HABITAT BY ADDRESSING THE IMPACTS OF POACHING AND THE LOSS OF TOURISM REVENUE DUE TO THE WORLDWIDE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: (1) PROVIDING FIELD EQUIPMENT AND REPAIRING VEHICLES FOR RHINOCEROS PROTECTION TEAMS (2) MONITORING RHINOCEROS POPULATIONS (3) UPGRADING INFRASTRUCTURE (4) IMPROVING WATER PROVISION AND (5) FACILITATING COMMUNICATIONS AMONG STAKEHOLDERS.
