Grant Description

Kenya Urban Mobility and Growth Threshold Program - Transport Sector Project - Governance Activity: The objective of the Sector Alignment and Governance Support Activity is to strengthen institutional alignment and governance of the transport sector by helping the Government clarify roles and responsibilities among the transport agencies.

The Activity shall support a review by the Transport Planning Consultant of the work activities, operational practices, and legal mandates of various transport agencies and authorities to identify gaps, overlaps and conflicts between their mandates and activities.

As part of this Activity, Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA), with assistance from the Transport Planning Consultant, shall seek to define processes for information sharing, coordination of planned activities, and collective decision-making; more effectively collaborate with other agencies and authorities; and provide leadership in transport planning.

Through this Activity, NaMATA should be able to identify opportunities to revise its authorizing legislation or support the development and adoption of alternative legislation to provide greater certainty over long-term funding for transportation infrastructure.
